Gradation curve
= transfer curve, print characteristic curve. The gradation curve is adapted during image processing or in the output system and describes the dot gain of a half-tone image.
How it works
The curve is composed of the initial values (digital image) and the target values (plate or print). By decreasing or increasing the target values, the tone value (brightness) is changed compared to the initial value. The target values of the gradation are also saved in the ICC colour profiles and are used for colour control in colour management.
