IDML
= InDesign Markup Language. IDML is the XML format supported by Adobe InDesign CS4 or higher. InDesign documents can be exported to IDML format and vice versa InDesign can import IDML files.
Various Applications
InDesign documents or templates can be imported and exported in web-to-print-, web-to-publish or layout applications that are not based on InDesign.
Database publishing, which exports content from databases, links the content to layout templates, and automatically creates an IDML document that can be post-edited in InDesign.
Outputs can also be created from the IDML document for other media channels, the internet or mobile devices.
The IDML family also includes IDMS (InDesign Markup Snippet), which allows objects to be managed centrally and used multiple times in documents.
