Soft proof

Documents are checked on the monitor with a soft proof. If the viewer has a colour-binding monitor, the colours can also be simulated and evaluated on the basis of colour management.

Due to the independence from operating systems PDF files are often used as soft proof. There are also web-based matching systems in which print data that has already been converted into pixel data is made available for approval.

In the future digital proofs will be replaced by monitor soft proofs in the form of printouts.
