Unicode

Unicode is a universal standard for the coding of all characters in the world. This is why Unicode is the basis for software systems which are used internationally. In Web-to-print:web-to-print and web-to-publish systems, Unicode is the technological basis for multilingualism.

Variants

The most commonly used variant is 8-bit coding (UTF-8). With more than 1,000,000 characters receive a unique numerical value with so-called code points. However, the majority of common characters and symbols is defined in the first 65,000 characters of the standard.
