A host is a computer that is integrated within a computer network to provide increased computing power and capacity.

Host as a basis for cloud computing

Within such a network, the host provides hardware and software. So-called hosting providers can, for example, provide the complete IT infrastructure for internet services and form the basis for SaaS and ASP offerings as part of cloud computing.
