Meta description
Meta-description are short texts that describe the content of a HTML document, e.g. in a maximum of 175 characters. These are noted in the header of the source code and belong to the general meta tags. For the internet user the description is not visible in the webbrowser.
Function
The meta description plays a special role for online marketing and especially for search engine optimisation (SEO). The meta description appears within the result list of a search engine as a description text for the respective link below the result heading and should both draw attention to the respective content behind a link and encourage users to click on the URL.
