User-generated content

User-generated content is content that is generated by the user himself and not by the website operator.

Characteristics

User-generated content includes, for example, blog contributions by guest authors, entries in online encyclopedias, comments in forums or product reviews and reviews on gastronomy, travel and online trade. User-generated content is also frequently used as a business model. Business processes are outsourced to internet users (see crowdsourcing).

Added value

With regard to online marketing user-generated content also contributes to search engine optimisation (SEO). Regular, new content and activity promote the ranking of a website.
